About Lucas Kimanthi

I am Family-man and a Christian.

A human rights and good governance expert and practitioner with over 25 years’ experience in the sector. I was educated at Egerton University (B.Ed. Education- Languages, Linguistics and Languages) and University of Nairobi (MA. Human Rights).

I am a passionate writer with keen focus on these genres- poetry, media articles, play writing (plays, musicals and verse), contemporary and revolutionary music, children literature and contemporary photography. My passion pivots around themes on human rights, good governance, politics, peace and justice.

I previously worked with Release Political Prisoners Pressure Group (RPP) as a Programmes Manager (Human Rights) and later at the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, IRCK as a Projects Officer (Governance, Economic Justice and Peace Departments). Currently working with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) as an Assistant Director, Reforms and Accountability Division.

I have widely consulted for numerous institutions in Kenya, Africa and globally on Civic and Capacity building, Constitutionalism, Economic Justice, Elections and Electoral Processes, Peace and Security, Political Processes, Transitional justice and Reparations, Prisons and Rehabilitation, Community Mobilizing and Institutional Developmental.

I was heavily involved in the struggle for the second liberation of Kenya. I was an active citizen during the call for review and the eventual realization of the 2010 Kenya constitution and the subsequent expansion of civic and human rights space which I continue to fighting any attempts to shrink it. I served as a two-term Vice Chairperson of the students’ Union during my undergraduate studies.

I am a global citizen concerned with end of all forms of discrimination and oppression.
